For young people with chronic skin conditions, Camp Discovery offers a summer camping experience unlike any they’ve had before. Every year, the American Academy of Dermatology sponsors a week of fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, arts and crafts, and just plain fun.
Under the expert care of dermatologists and nurses,
Camp Discovery offers campers the opportunity to spend a week among other young
people who have similar skin conditions. Many of the counselors have skin conditions as
well, and can provide support and advice to campers. Fun, friendship, and
independence are on the top of everyone’s agenda and everyone shares in the
discovery of what it’s like to be included. http://www.campdiscovery.org/
The National Eczema Association (NEA) will host
the Sixth National Eczema
Association Patient Conference for
eczema patients and families, Thursday,
August 5th to Sunday,
August 8, 2010, in Chicago, Illinois.
This four day conference is a once in a life
time opportunity for people of all ages to interact with affected patients and
their families, who share the same challenges of this common and life-altering
disease, get some wonderful tips for management, and meet national thought
leaders. The conference also includes a kid’s camp that fosters self
esteem and confidence for children 5-12, and teens 13-17.
On Saturday, August 7, 2010, the Northwestern
University, Eczema Care and Education Center is excited to partner with the
National Eczema Association (NEA) to host a educational conference to be
held at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Feinberg Pavilion Conference
Center. The morning educational meeting is designed to cover comprehensively
several aspects of atopic skin dermatitis and other allergic conditions in
adults and children. The co-directors for this meeting are Dr. Amy S.
Paller and Dr. Peter A. Lio, both well known experts in the field of pediatric
dermatology.
Following the morning sessions, we will have a
lunch that allows families to meet physicians and talk about real-life
issues. The afternoon sessions are interactive workshops, that deal with
practical issues, followed by an open discussion with questions from both
physicians and families. This is sure to be a fabulous learning
experience for all!
